Who Has the Most Bitcoin?

The largest holder of Bitcoin in the world is actually Bitcoin itself, through coins that are permanently lost or unspent.

Over 1 million BTC are believed to be held by Bitcoin’s mysterious creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, who has never touched them.

Among publicly known entities, the U.S. government holds over 200,000 BTC, mostly seized from criminal investigations.

The largest corporate holder is MicroStrategy, led by Michael Saylor, with over 210,000 BTC as of 2025.

Exchange platforms like Binance, Coinbase, and Bitfinex also control hundreds of thousands of BTC in custodial wallets.

Grayscale Bitcoin Trust is a major institutional holder, managing large BTC reserves for investors globally.

Other big holders include early adopters, whales, and crypto funds that bought BTC when it was under $1,000.

Some countries, like El Salvador, also own Bitcoin as part of their national reserves or treasury.

While no one knows the full picture, a small number of wallets still control a huge portion of all existing Bitcoin.
