SK Hynix Seeks to Raise $28 Billion Through Nasdaq Listing
One of the largest share sales in recent years is that of SK Hynix, which will raise approximately $28 billion with a listing on Nasdaq. The South Korean memory chip maker intends to sell American Depositary Receipts (ADRs), making its shares accessible to the U.S. and international market.
The acquisition is just as the demand for Artificial Intelligence chips or AI chips continues to rise sharply. SK Hynix is among the top providers of high-tech memory chips and wants to leverage strong market demand to move on to the next phase of its expansion.

AI Boom Continues to Drive Investor Interest
SK Hynix is one of the largest beneficiaries of the AI sector. The high bandwidth memory chips are crucial to enabling high-performance AI systems at tech giants like Nvidia and Google.
Despite the recent pullback the company’s stock was up nearly 273% for the year by virtue of the strong demand for these chips. Despite the market-wide pressures, investors still see SK Hynx as one of the strongest businesses to profit from South Korea’s investment in AI infrastructure.
The company plans to sell 17.79 million new shares through ADRs. Each common share will be represented by 10 ADRs. The final offering price is expected to be announced later this week before trading on the stock exchange Nasdaq commences.
Funds Will Support Future Chip Production
SK Hynix plans to invest the money in expanding its manufacturing capacity. The company plans to construct additional chip manufacturing facilities in South Korea and acquire advanced chip manufacturing equipment such as extreme ultraviolet machines used to make cutting edge semiconductors.
Such investments will boost SK Hynix’s ability to compete in growing AI hardware demand internationally. The fundraising also contributes to the nation’s overall semiconductor strategy of strengthening South Korea’s leadership in the semiconductor industry.
A Key Test for the Memory Chip Industry
The Nasdaq listing could become the world’s second largest share sale and further expand SK Hynix’s global investor base. It could also help narrow the valuation gap with competitors in the United States.
But investors will be keeping a close eye on the memory chip market. Future deceleration in AI expenditures may lead to slower demand growth. SK Hynix remains confident that over the long term, robust AI growth will help support its expansion.
