U.S. Government Transfers $300 Million in Seized Crypto to Coinbase
The U.S. government has sent almost $300 million in seized cryptocurrencies to Coinbase Prime. Every crypto investor and analyst has been watching the U.S. government move their cryptocurrencies.
Government linked wallets transferred 3,940 Bitcoin valued around $244 million along with 30,014 Ethereum valued about $53 million to Coinbase Prime, according to blockchain tracking platform Arkham.
The total value of the transfer was worth just under $300 Million, making it one of the biggest government-related transfers of the year this year.

Major Seized Crypto Assets Sent to Coinbase Prime
The transferred Bitcoins were reportedly funds that were seized during police actions against Ryan Farace, or “Xanaxman,” and the now-shuttered cryptocurrency exchange BTC-e. A former worker of Oracle who was also associated with a massive cryptocurrency storage and money laundering network was linked to Ethereum.
Previously, these assets had been seized by the United States through criminal investigations. The recent shift signals the broadened scope of government regulation as a key player in the global digital economy.
Market Watches for Signs of a Potential Crypto Sale
The deal immediately brought hot water to the crypto space. Many traders have been thinking that transfers to Coinbase Prime could be an indication of a future sale. Major sales by the government can sway the mood of the market owing to the volume of transactions taking place.
But experts say you shouldn’t jump to conclusions. Coinbase Prime provides a variety of various institutional services such as staking, trading, financing, and custody. This transfer does not mean, therefore, that the government will sell the assets right away. This might be as part of a larger reorganization or consolidation of seized cryptocurrency assets.
Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Remains in Focus
The transfer is a significant development as it follows President Donald Trump issuing an executive order in March 2025 for the creation of the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. Federal agencies were instructed to hold the seized Bitcoin and add it to the reserves as opposed to selling it.
However, the U.S. government hasn’t announced any new acquisitions of Bitcoin following the announcement of the reserve. Most assets currently held are digital assets seized due to criminal investigations.
US Government Still Holds Billions in Cryptocurrency
At this time, wallets under the U.S. government’s control appear to contain about $20.6 billion worth of cryptocurrencies, according to estimates from Arkham. These assets encompass approximately 325,000 Bitcoin (BTC), 28,000 Ethereum (ETH), millions of USDT tokens, and digital assets.
Government crypto activity can be anticipated to keep rising. Market individuals will stay tuned on upcoming transfers and any facets of federal cryptocurrency policy.
